Since 1988, Orthodox Christians of every nationality in Ottawa have been blessed with a large and beautiful Russian Orthodox church, situated just west of downtown. Throughout the last thirty years, the regular parishioners of this community have worked to maintain and beautify this church for the benefit of all Orthodox faithful in Canada’s capital.
Today we turn to you for help. After three decades, our church is in need of serious renovations. These include restoring the gold domes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cp1urWcMd38) that are visible from many buildings downtown, including the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill.
The size of the domes, their gold colour and the height of the building will make the restoration difficult and expensive. Our parish council has decided to begin this important work by replacing the main dome with a new one clad in bright gold-coloured stainless steel shingles. The new dome should last for many decades and be maintenance-free. The cost of this work will be about $100,000.
All of us are called to witness to our Orthodox Faith and to "go... and teach all nations [and to baptize] them" (Mat. 28: 19). The people of Kievan Rus came to the Orthodox faith because of the beauty of the divine services and the church building. Please help us spread the truth of the Orthodox faith through the beauty of the church building by generously donating for the restoration of our main dome. Donations can be made at the church or through the parish website (https://www.memorialchurch.ca/en/helpus). A tax receipt will be issued for all donations.
May God bless you and reward you for your generous contributions.
