The Protection of the Holy Virgin Russian Orthodox Church (ROCOR) in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is seeking a choir director to begin work in March 2012. The ideal candidate will be a devout Orthodox Christian with a love for the music and liturgical traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church, have knowledge of Church Slavonic, Russian, English and the eight tones and have experience conducting an Orthodox church choir. Candidates with an education in Orthodox choral conducting will be given priority. The conductor will be responsible for leading the choir during Sunday, feast day and great saint’s day vigils and liturgies, the services of Great Lent and Holy Week and to conduct regular rehearsals. Excluding the first week of Great Lent and Holy Week, there may be on average between five and ten hours of work per week. A competitive salary will be offered based on qualifications. Depending on other qualifications the parish is also in a position to offer a qualified candidate part-time employment (20-30 hours a week), with housing.
